Financing of political parties from state budget postponed
The political parties will benefit from financing of 0.2% of the state budget revenues not from 2011, but from 2013. A relevant amendment to article 32 of the law on political parties was approved at the last meeting of the Government, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase said that a democratic state cannot exist without institutions that promote political pluralism. The political parties play a major role in this respect. Therefore, a transparent financing mechanism must exist for them to work efficiently.
“Given that the crisis seriously affected the Moldovan economy, the budget revenues have decreased significantly and the budget deficit is large, it would be an empty promise to say that the parties will benefit from financial resources from the budget,” Tanase said. “The implementation of the given decision will be only postponed. The state does not abandon its obligations.”
The amendment says the parties will be financed depending on the number of seats held in the Parliament. As regards the financing proportional to the number of votes polled in the general local elections, the Minister of Justice considers that the set date of July 1, 2011 can be kept.
