The Ministry of Finance has transferred 13.8 million lei from the state budget to the local authorities for paying compensations to the victims of political repression. Over 10 million lei was allotted to the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti and to 17 districts to pay compensations for this year. The rest of the money will go to pay the second part of the compensations for 2008, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry issued on Thursday. A part of the money was used to refund the value of the property confiscated from victims of political repressions, who won the right to be refunded by court, the communiqué says. Under the legislation, the value of the goods that cannot be returned is paid from the budgets of the districts, of the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia and from the state budget. If the value of the goods does not exceed 200,000 lei, the compensation is paid within three years, but if the goods are worth more than 200,000 lei – within five years.
