Finance Minister confident that global economic turmoil will not affect Moldova's foreign borrowing

“The economic crisis, which hit a number of countries and which we hope will be mitigated following the decisions recently adopted in the U.S., will not affect Moldova's foreign borrowing activities”, Finance Minister Mariana Durleasteanu assured. Moldova has financing agreements with the World Bank and other donors. This funding is meant to support some large-scale investment projects co-financed by the government. And these agreements are respected, no delays in disbursing the funds agreed upon have been registered, the Minister pointed out. Concerning the provision of external loans to Moldovan companies, Mariana Durleasteanu says this is done with the help of the EBRD projects. Local companies will further have access to relatively cheap loans through EBRD credit lines, at the Black Sea Trade & Development Bank and other direct loaners. Economic expert Veaceslav Ionita also thinks that special borrowing solutions will still be available to the Moldovan business, through development banks and funds like the EBRD, Bank Austria and other financial institutions.
