Starting with May 1, the old-age pension will be 3,300 lei for people with a contribution period of at least 40 years. The draft law to increase the pension was adopted on Thursday by Parliament following two readings, IPN reports.
The MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity Valentina Ghetu said that this bill was drafted on the initiative of President Maia Sandu and comes to support pensioners. "All over the country there are pensioners who worked for over 40 years in different fields and, because they had low salaries, they have the minimum pension of 2,778 lei," said the parliamentarian.
The group of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists criticized the government even though they voted in favor of the draft law. "It is possible to talk and brag about helping pensioners a lot and well, but it is the quality of life that is the best indicator. Go out and talk to pensioners, ask them if they started to live better or not?", said Socialist MP Vladimir Odnostalco.
Another Socialist MP, Petru Burduja, said that this increase takes place against the background of significant price rises in recent years. An old woman asked the MPs of the parliamentary majority to draw up a monthly expenditure estimate when she gets a pension of 3,500 lei, but her heat bill was 2,600 lei and her electricity bill was 200 lei.
When put to the vote, the draft law was given a final reading and adopted by the votes of 80 MPs.
The beneficiaries of pensions in this category will be identified in the "Social Protection" Information System managed by the National House of Social Insurance. Respectively, their pensions will be increased automatically, without the persons needing to submit an application to the local social insurance house.
In November 2024, there were 30,505 people with a contribution period of at least 40 years who received pensions lower than 3,300 lei.
