The draft law providing for the revision of the judicial map was given a final reading. As a result, the courts of appeals will be organized as follows: the Center Court of Appeals (Chisinau), the North Court of Appeals (Balti), the South Court of Appeals (headquarters – Cahul, secondary office – Comrat), IPN reports.

According to the draft law, the judges and employees from the premises redistributed to other courts will continue their activity at the current workplace. The only difference is that, from an administrative point of view, it will be considered that they work in other courts.

Veronica Rosca, head of the Parliament’s commission on legal affairs, appointments and immunities, said that the draft law is to be considered in the third and final readings. “The purpose of the bill is to efficiently organize the courts, improve the quality of justice and increase the efficiency of courts, ensure the most rational use of public funds allocated to courts, the uniform distribution of the workload among judges, etc.,” stated the MP.

The bill suggests that, out of the total number of 15 judges, 14 should remain. MP Artemie Cătănoi proposed an amendment that stipulates that the Bender Court (Varnița) will continue its activity until December 31, 2030 in order to facilitate access to justice for citizens from the left bank of the Dniester.

According to statistical data, the national courts in 2023 had 353,201 pending cases. Most of them, 122,846, were at the Court of Chisinau City, while 43,177 cases – at the Chisinau Court of Appeals. The lowest workload among first-level courts was recorded at the Criuleni Court and the Anenii Noi Court. In the case of the courts of appeals, the lowest number of cases was registered at the Comrat Court of Appeal.
