The preliminary results after all the minutes were counted show that the most votes were won by the PAS candidate Maia Sandu – 42.45%, and the PSRM candidate Alexandr Stoianoglo - 25.98%. Thus, the two politicians will contend in the runoff election on November 3, IPN reports.
Our Party’s candidate Renato Usatyi gained 13.79% of the vote. He is followed by the independent candidate Irina Vlah, for whom 5.38% of the electors voted.
Independent candidate Victoria Furtună won 4.45% of the ballot, former premier Vasile Tarlev, the candidate of the Party for the Future of Moldova - 3.19%, ex-prime ministe, Ion Chicu, the candidate of the Party for Consolidation and Development - 2.06%, Octavian Țîcu, who rang on behalf of “Together” electoral bloc – 0.93%.
Andrei Năstase garnered 0.64% of the poll, Natalia Morari – 0.61%, and Tudor Ulyanovski – 0.52%. All the three ran independently.
According to the Electoral Code, if none of the candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova gains at least half of the poll, a runoff vote between the two candidates who obtained most votes in the first round of voting is held in two weeks of the first round.
