Filling station rocked by explosion
A tank with about 2 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas exploded at a service station located on the Chisinau-Leuseni road, not far from Suruceni village of Ialoveni district. The explosion occurred after a taxi damaged the faucet of the tank.
Liliana Puscasu, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the taxi drove in at high speed, hitting the faucet. During about 30 seconds, the gas reached the overheated engine of the car and exploded. The car burned completely. The flames enveloped the tank, but the about 40 firefighters with four vehicles managed to localize and put out the fire after all the gas in the tank burned.
The taxi driver and an employee of the station needed medical care. An ambulance arrived immediately at the scene from Ialoveni. The driver suffered burns, while the employee poisoned by fumes.
The damage has been estimated at about 10,000 lei.
