The arrest of Vlad Filat could be followed by a series of other arrests of high-ranking officials, said experts invited to the program, “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
Constitutional law expert Vitali Catana considers that Moldova could repeat Romania’s experience. “The arrest of former Romanian Premier Adrian Nastase also came as a shock in Romanian society. The fight against high-ranking corruption in Romania started with a similar arrest. But Romania needed about 20 years to reach this level. I would like Moldova to follow the example of Romania,” he stated.
Jurist Pavel Midrigan believes the arrest of Filat is a very important event. “In Moldova’s history, no minister got a jail term. Maybe the government officials will become more responsible now,” he said.
Ion Dron, chairman of the Association “Justice and Uprightness”, thinks it is good that Vlad Filat and Vlad Plahotniuc fell out. “Filat does not deserve compassion. He himself stated that he was an accomplice. It is good when they wrangle. It’s good for the people as many things can come out. The ball is now in the justice’s court,” he said.
Journalist Nicolae Negru said the Liberal Democratic Party should detach itself from Filat, anticipating that more such arrests could be witnessed soon.
