Filat: We’ll do our best to bring back eastern districts within the country’s borders

“The Transnistrian region is territory of the Republic of Moldova. Its place is in Moldova and we’ll do everything possible and, if needed, impossible to bring back the eastern districts within Moldova’s natural borders and under the jurisdiction of the Moldovan Constitution”, Prime Minister Vlad Filat declared during an interview for Radio Free Europe, Info-Prim Neo reports. The official said that the process is complex and difficult and it required a lot of effort, insistence, permanent open and sincere communication to find the solutions for the issues that concern the rights of people on the both sides of the Nistru River. “Nobody will make me give up. I said at the beginning of my mandate that if flying to the moon helped the negotiations, I would fly. Regardless where and in what environment, I will insist and continue the dialogue, offering solutions to near, step by step, the moment when we settle the Transnistrian conflict to reunify the country and this will happen in an independent, sovereign and territorially complete state”, added the Prime Minister. As regards the meetings and discussions the Tiraspol leader Yevgeny Shevchuk is having in Moscow, Vlad Filat dismissed much as speculation. “It’s obvious that Mr. Shevchuk goes to Moscow, that he is having some talks. It’s not a secret either that Moscow is directly and indirectly financing the Tiraspol administration. It’s not a secret for us. But this doesn’t mean we have to give up the process of negotiation. This process isn’t only about Chisinau and Tiraspol. We have a format with the participation of 27 European countries. It’s also about the US, about Ukraine, about the Russian Federation and the OSCE member countries. So we have the full participation of all decision makers at world level”, said Filat. The Prime Minister ruled out imposing conditions on Moscow to find out reactions. “I’ve seen politicians who tried to build their political career by imposing conditions. I say “career” because if they had thought about the country, they wouldn’t have chosen the path they did, which led to dead ends, broke the dialogue and caused great losses for the country and the Moldovan people”, said the Prime Minister. Vlad Filat added that Moldova’s situation meant the country should be smart and consistent instead of imposing conditions.
