Filat urges organizers not to hold September 16 demonstrations

Prime Minister Vlad Filat is urging organizers of the demonstrators scheduled for September 16 in Chisinau to give up their plans and is asking people irrespective of their political opinions to refrain from participating in such demonstrations and avoid being “exploited for political purposes”, Info-Prim Neo reports. Further, the Prime Minister has instructed law enforcement agencies to investigate all the demonstrations that may violate the Constitution of Moldova and during which unregistered public symbols are used. The Ministry of Justice was instructed to review the relevant legislation with a view to banning such demonstrations. The Prime Minister noted that such demonstrations have increased in frequency lately, saying that they not just pose a threat to the state's independence and integrity, but also endanger Moldova's European integration option. “Moldova has to implement multiple economic and social reforms in the context of European integration and in order to advance with them it needs stability”, stated Filat.
