Filat, Smirnov engage in informal conversation at Tiraspol football game
Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov on Friday had an informal conversation as they both attended a football match in Tiraspol. “We discussed a number of issues related to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. Hopefully in September we will be able to resume formal negotiations in the 5+2 format to identify a viable solution”, Vlad Filat told journalists after the match, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vlad Filat added that he also discussed with Igor Smirnov issues related to the resumption of freight rail transportation via Transnistria and restoration of land-line phone connections between the two banks. Vlad Filat further mentioned about the opportunity of releasing Ilie Cazac, who was condemned on charges of treason and spying for Moldova.
“Next Tuesday Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov will continue this discussion in Bender, together with representatives of the involved institutions”, added Filat.
Last year, Vlad Filat met twice with Igor Smirnov while watching football games in Tiraspol.
