Filat skeptical about Democrats' proposal to introduce meal tickets
Prime Minister Vlad Filat is skeptical about the proposal by the Democratic Party to introduce meal tickets for employees, saying that in many countries such a practice resulted in embezzlement and corruption, and Romania's recent experience is a proof to that, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vlad Filat seems unwilling to talk much about this proposal of the coalition allies. If the proposal becomes a legislative initiative, Filat said he would “take it under personal supervision”. Such a legislative initiative could come from the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child, headed by Democrat Valentina Buliga.
Democrat leader Marian Lupu announced recently at a press conference that his faction would propose in a week or two a bill to introduce meal tickets. The tickets, worth 25 to 50 lei, would be distributed for free by the employers. The employees would use them to get free meals in certain eateries or exchange them for food. Fiscal incentives would be in place to encourage employers to use them.
