The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Prime Minister Vlad Filat demanded that the chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu should provide additional guarantees that he will not form a coalition with the Communist Party in order to secure the Communists’ support in the presidential elections, Info-Prim Neo reports. After the party’s fifth congress on December 11, Vlad Filat said the Democrats should give the people guarantees that they will not bring the Communists in power again. He stated he will demand that Marian Lupu sign an annex to the agreement on the formation of the Alliance for European Integration. The Liberal-Democrats will also demand that the given annex contain a commitment to actively support the Government and a provision on the depoliticization of the law enforcement bodies. “We will never accept being used to bring the Communists back in power,” said Vlad Filat. In the congress, Vlad Filat was reelected as chairman of the PLDM. Speaking about the party’s activity, he said that in four years after the foundation, the party became a ruling one and gathered more and more votes in the three legislative elections in which it took part. He approved of the results achieved by the Government in the period, especially at foreign level, and of the fact that Moldova came closer to the EU. He stressed that the ruling alliance has been shaken by disagreements, especially after the 2010 parliamentary elections, and reiterated that the PLDM will seek the prosecutor general’s dismissal and a Cabinet reshuffle. The PLDM entered the political arena of Moldova on December 8, 2007, on the initiative Vlad Filat, a former member of the Democratic Party. In 2009, it adopted the conservative doctrine. In the last parliamentary elections, the PLDM won almost 30% of the vote and holds 32 seats of MP.
