Filat says instigators were behind Balti disorder

Prime Minister Vlad Filat claims that instigators are to blame for the disorder in Balti that put an end to a peaceful march on Sunday. He told reporters that over 50 persons were being quizzed by the police to elucidate all the circumstances and bring those responsible to justice, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I regret that in times when there are extremely complex issues to be resolved and major reformatory processes going on, times when we need a consolidated society, provocations appear which are far from our national interests. “Metal objects were discovered among those involved and these are most certainly not the requisites of a peaceful assembly. The organizers are directly responsible, as the law clearly states”, declared Vlad Filat. Filat added that he instructed the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior to review the relevant legislation and make proposals for improvements where needed. Participants in a procession for unification with Romania which was staged on Sunday in Balti were met by counter-demonstrators, mostly residents of the city and members of political parties and organizations describing themselves as “patriotic” and “statalist”. Some of them threw stones at the marchers and at least two persons were injured. Even if significant numbers of policemen were involved, the marchers were forced to stop the authorized demonstration.
