Filat satisfied with results of his visit to Kiev
Boosting of Moldo-Ukrainian relations and the implementation of the understandings reached in Yalta formed the key part of the discussions held today in Kiev by Moldovan Prime-Minister Vlad Filat with his Ukrainian counterpart Yulia Timoshenko, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Moldovan prime-minister told a press briefing upon his arrival at the Chisinau airport that the discussions centered on economic issues, in particular the removal of barriers to the free exchange of goods and services.
Filat said he mentioned the possibility to ease trips to Ukraine for the Moldovan citizens, including by removing the pecuniary requirements imposed recently.
“We talked about our joint actions, which we are supposed to take in the process of European integration, and we signed two documents. The first, a protocol between our governments concerning the amendment of the Moldo-Ukrainian Agreement on Mutual Recognition and Property Relations signed on 11 August 1994. This protocol is to be ratified between the parliaments of our countries and after ratification we hope we will be able to settle the issues related to the administration of our possessions on the Ukrainian territory. We also signed an agreement between our governments concerning cooperation in youth policies,” said Filat.
Overall the prime-minister described his visit as successful and capable of moving the bilateral relations to a new level.
Concerning the border demarcation issue, Filat said a task-force is about to complete its works near Giurgiulesti and another one is about to start working along the Transnistrian segment of the border. “In what concerns Palanca, critics mustn't worry, because there is nothing more to demarcate in Palanca after (ex-president Vladimir) Voronin and his entourage signed an agreement. We will publish that agreement soon. What we can do now is to ensure safeguards for the residents of that community, so that they can have free access to their farm plots”, Filat added.
