The parliament is to elect a new country president today on June 3. The MPs, who will attend the vote, will have to elect between incumbent premier Zinaida Grecianai and Moldova's ambassador to Russia, Andrei Neguta – both proposed by Communist (PCRM) parliamentarians, Info-Prim Neo reports. The premier was put forward by 33 Communist MPs, as 16 PCRM parliamentarians proposed the ambassador. The opposition advanced no candidates and says it won't attend the election. The PCRM faction holds 60 seats, falling short of just one to elect a president. Early elections will be called, if the Parliament fails to elect a president on May 28. On May 20, the Parliament failed to elect the president. Zinaida Greceanai gained 60 votes, all cast by the Communist MPs. Academician Stanislav Groppa, also advanced by the PCRM, got no ballot. The repeated elections scheduled for May 28 were postponed for June 3, with the votes of the PCRM faction. They argued it was Ascension Day on May 28, “a day when there should be no polemics and statements to plunge the country into a new election campaign.”
