Repeated elections of the president of the Republic of Moldova will be held today at the Parliament's plenary sitting. Incumbent prime-minister Zinaida Greceanai and Moldova's ambassador to Russia Andrei Neguta run for the office. Both have been proposed by the parliamentary faction of the Communists PCRM). The premier was put forward by 33 Communist MPs, as 16 parliamentarians proposed the ambassador. The opposition advanced no candidates and says it won't attend the election. The PCRM faction holds 60 seats, falling short of just one to elect a president. Early elections will be called, if the Parliament fails to elect a president on May 28. On May 20, the Parliament failed to elect the president. Zinaida Greceanai gained 60 votes, all cast by the Communist MPs. Academician Stanislav Groppa, also advanced by the PCRM, got no ballot.
