Fifty-two candidates to run in November 21 local mayoral elections

As many as 52 candidates will be competing for the 15 posts of mayor in the new local elections of November 21. Of these, 41 were designated by political parties, while 11 are independent candidates. Thirty-seven candidates are male, while 15 are female, IPN reports, quoting the Central Election Commission.

Eleven candidates will contend for the post of mayor of Bălți municipality, one of whom is independent.

In four localities, there are by four aspirants to the post of mayor. These are Hârtop commune of Cimișlia district, Cupcini town of Edineț district, Palanca village of Ștefan Vodă district and Negurenii Vechi commune of Ungheni.

By three candidates will run for mayor in five communities, namely Opaci village of Căușeni district, Hlinaia village of Edineț district, Ișcălău village of Fălești district, Bălceana village of Hîncești district and Cneazevca village of Leova district.

By two aspirants bill contend for mayor in five settlements, namely Ucrainca village of Căușeni district, Călinești village of Fălești district, Pîrlița village of Fălești dudtrcit, Camenca village of Glodeni district and Ștefănești village of Ștefan Vodă district.

The local electoral bodies denied registration to two potential independent candidates and a candidate proposed by a party. The independents didn’t meet the requirements concerning the number of signatures in their support (5% of the voters in the given constituency). In the case of Mihai Cristian [Rizea], registration was rejected because he does not hold the nationality of the Republic of Moldova, as required by law. The party that fielded him managed to provide another candidate and this was registered.
