The fifth edition of the governmental program DOR – Diaspora*Origins*Returns has come to an end. During a week, the 100 participants became involved in creative, sports, artistic, linguistic and history and culture learning activities at the DOR camp. These also paid cultural visits and had meetings with different Moldovan personalities, IPN reports.
The children went on trips to the natural-cultural reserve “Orheiul Vechi” and visited the Great National Assembly Square on the Independence Day. They learned the wood carving art together with craftspeople, discovered the national costume and took part in theatrical activities and concerts given by artistic ensembles.
The 100 children, 80 of whom from the diaspora and 20 from the country, were chosen out of the total of 197 applicants from 14 countries, including Canada, the Czech Republic, France and Portugal. The children from Moldova were selected as a result of a national creation contest where the applicants presented the DOR concept in relation to migration by an essay, drawing, poem or another artistic form.
The DOR program is an initiative of the Government of the Republic of Moldova that consists in the annual organization of a summer program for children of Moldovans who are abroad with the aim of strengthening emotional ties with the country of origin.
DOR has been held since 2013 on August 20-28 and involved over 400 children so far.
