The fifth edition of the Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Partnership Platform initiated by Romania, Germany and France has started in Chisinau. The over 65 delegations arrived at the Palace of the Republic, being composed of ministers, deputy ministers, secretaries of state of the foreign ministries of the partner states, representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations, IPN reports.

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that the Republic of Moldova this year has marked significant milestones, starting from the initiation of negotiations with the European Union and ending with the ongoing bilateral screening process. There are yet challenges related to Russia’s war against Ukraine. Also, the Government recently had to manage emergency operations to alleviate the socioeconomic consequences caused by the extreme weather.

In another development, the official said that he would like a new initiative – a fund for development and solidarity for the agricultural sector, which would provide assistance for farmers – to be discussed within the Platform.

Attending the event, President Maia Sandu said that the Republic of Moldova is not alone. The support it received from friendly and partner states was significant. “Here, in Moldova, we have a proverb that we often use: “Where there is one there is no power; where there are many, power grows”. Well, there are many of us and with you by our side, we are even stronger. Today, Moldova is at a crossroads, but it is not a crossroads where we do not know where to go. We know the direction well: forward, towards a European future, where peace and prosperity are the order of the day. The future of our country is not built overnight, but every step we take together brings us closer to that stable, European future, where every citizen lives with dignity and in safety,” stated the official.

President Sandu said that her main message today is that time can no longer be wasted. “We must act decisively and with greater certitude. We asked that the support we receive be as direct, flexible and fast as possible. Moldova has enormous potential, but with the war on the border, it is difficult for us to realize it. History has taught us that no country managed to become an economic success without solid initial support and lasting partnerships. This is the help we asked for from our partners,” noted the official.

During the day, the discussions will focus on the results and needs identified within the four working groups: Justice, anticorruption and security; Energy, energy efficiency and environment; Sustainable economic development and strategic infrastructure; Public administration reform and public finance management.

Nine financing agreements will be signed with international partners. The implementation of these agreements is expected to accelerate the country’s modernization and adaptation to climate change.
