Fifth and ten graders will use tablet PCs in classes

Up to fifteen schools in Moldova from this autumn will receive computers and tablet PCs within a pilot project implemented by the Ministry of Education. The equipment will be used both by the teachers and students, IPN reports.

In the Moldova ICT Summit 2013, acting Minister of Education Maia Sandu said the national program to endow the schools with modern electronic equipment will be implemented in stages because it involves large costs. The pilot project will be initially implemented for the fifth and tenth graders. “We will stage a contest to choose the institutions that will receive the equipment. There will be used only licensed programs. We will see how it is implemented over a year and will then move to the seventh grade,” stated the minister.

According to her, when the electronic equipment reaches the schools, information about the performance and attendance of students and other data about the school will become available in electronic format.

Maia Sandu said that during three months there was tested the application live.edu that was worked out in cooperation with Microsoft. It is to be implemented all over the country. Through the agency of this application, the teachers will be able to exchange experience and to communicate separately with the Ministry of Education.

The minister stressed that the implementation of information technology in the teaching process is very important and the young people should know the computer better that only how to use it.
