The health facilities contracted by the National Health Insurance Company last year performed 108 transplantations, by 21 fewer than a year before. The decline was due to the epidemiological situation and to the restrictions imposed in connection with this. The transplant surgeries were financed with money from the mandatory health insurance funds, IPN reports, quoting the Company.
Of all the performed surgeries, three were liver transplantations, 21 were cornea transplantations, while 84 were amniotic membrane transplantations for ocular surface. Over 4 million lei was allocated for these surgeries.
The transplant surgeries are performed by two public health facilities contracted by the National Health Insurance Company, namely “Timofei Moşneaga” National Clinical Hospital and Saint Trinity Municipal Clinical Hospital.
Over 8 million lei was earmarked in 2022 for transplant surgery. The cost of liver transplantation is about 790,000 lei, of cornea transplantation (without price of cornea) is about 22,000 lei, while of amniotic membrane transplantation is approximately 18,000 lei.
