Slightly over 4,500 students have been enrolled at lyceum classes in Chisinau this year, a decrease compared with last year. Of these, 2,600 will study humanities, 1,666 exact sciences, while 110 will train in sport. At other specialties, the figure is even lower, IPN reports.
The regulations provide that the lyceum stage can exist only if two classes of at least 20 students are formed. In nine education institutions, it was agreed to keep the lyceum stage with one class on particular conditions. Among these are “Vasile Lupu”, “Mihail Kotsiubinski”, “Natalia Gheorghiu”, “Lucian Blaga” and other lyceums. A condition for these lyceums is to improve the admission rate and the Baccalaureate exam pass rate. Otherwise, the lyceum classes at these institutions will be excluded from next year, said the acting head of the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Alexandru Fleas.
As to the activity of kindergartens, there are 12 institutions that temporarily do not work. In eight of them, repair works are performed with money provided by the Government of Romania. The works are to be completed at the end of September. Some of the kindergartens are yet on vacation. Two of the kindergartens were closed because they didn’t have cooks. Alexandru Fleas said the problem was solved and these will resume work next week.
