Fewer people use cable TV services

The cable TV operators have fewer subscribers. Statistics show the main development indicators on the pay TV services market in 2016 continued to decline, as during the past three years.

According to the ICT regulator ANRCETI, the total number of subscribers to pay TV services last year decreased by 5,300 on 2015 to almost 270,000. Sales revenues diminished by 5 million lei (-3.2%) to 151.7 million lei.

The data presented by the 108 active pay TV operators show 71% of the total number of subscribers in 2016 used cable TV networks, while 29% – IP TV networks. 55.4% of the subscribers received the TV signal in analog format, while 44.6% in digital format.

The decline in total sales revenues was due to the lower sales of cable TV operators. At the same time, the sales of IP TV providers increased.

The monthly average revenue per user of pay TV services was 46.7 lei.

Compared with 2015, the market shares of the largest pay TV operators by turnover didn’t change significantly. At the end of 2016, the market shares of Moldtelecom and Sun Communications were 30.6% and 26.7% respectively. The share of TV-BOX was 11.1%, while the cumulative share of the other 105 providers was 31.6%.
