Fewer people taking part in elections compared with 2003

7.77% of the total registered voters in Moldova have cast their ballots until 10.00 am, as against 9% at the local general elections on May 25, 2003. According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), the highest turnout rate was registered in Rezina, 27.37%. The lowest voter participation rate is registered in the municipality of Chisinau, 2.68%. Roughly 5% of eligible electors have voted in Balti. A press release from CEC reads that the voting process takes places without serious breaches of legislation, except in Corjova village, Dubasari, where the unconstitutional law-enforcement bodies of the Transnistrian separatist regime have overrun the polling station no.15/5 and prohibit people from voting. International observers and representatives of the Ministry of Reintegration went to the place where the incident had occurred. In addition, there were signalled technical problems related to ballot papers. Irregularities were traced in Cantemir raion, Chioselia village, where the ballots lacked the stamp “withdrawn” in the case of a candidate, as ordered by the Court of Appeals. A report of the Coalition 2007 reveals several problems related to the electoral process, including the attempt of a member of an election bureau to introduce several ballots in the ballot box.
