Fewer Moldovans go to work in Romania

The Moldovans, Turks and Chinese make up the lowest number of foreigners coming from non-EU member states that went to work in Romania this year. 2,064 workers from outside the EU came to Romania in the first half of 2009, Business Standard says on its website. According to the Romanian Immigration Office, this figure dropped by over 63% compared with the first half of last year, Info-Prim Neo reports. The employers needed mainly carpenters and iron workers. 173 workers came from Moldova, 578 from Turkey, while 659 from China. Bucharest was chosen by about 700 workers from outside the EU, Iasi by 511, Constanta by 122. According to a study carried out by the human resources agency Manpower, over 60% of the Romanian companies encounter difficulties in finding skilled personnel owing to the unattractive salaries, deficiencies in the education system or migration. Last year, most of the foreign workers came to Romania from Turkey (4,831), China (4,761), and Moldova (1,214).
