The third festival of the traditional towel iProsop, which is dedicated to the manually woven popular towel and the entrepreneurial opportunities of promoting the culture in the southern region of Moldova, will take place in Selemet village of Cimislia district on May 27, when it is celebrated Whitsunday. The event, organized by the local mayor’s office, is designed to promote the unique coloring of the towel and its cultural-artistic and historical utility and as an element of decor and of uniting people, IPN reports.

According to the organizers, the festival is held to highlight the ethnic and regional traditions related to the national costume, gastronomy, folklore and lifestyle in villages. The festival will bring together over 30 craftspeople, folkloric groups from the country and abroad, emeritus artists, ethnic groups of Gagauz people, Ukrainians, Bulgarians and Russians who will present towel collections and performances.

The guests of the event will be able to admire the diversity of towels from museum and personal collections and to purchase traditional towels and could see the manual weaving process. Craftswomen will give weaving lessons, while children will try to embroider elements of a traditional towel. Weaving techniques will be presented by experts of the National Museum of History and Ethnography of Moldova and by Ana Cotruta, who promotes the art of weaving in Selemet.

Housewives are invited to take part in gastronomic contests and presentations within the Gastronomic Theater with dishes made in the southern region. Each participant could taste food made in the Hunter’s Yard and see a concert featuring Zinaida Julea, Ofelia Florica Harangus from Romania, national and foreign dance ensembles, amateurs of ethnic-folkloric music, etc.

iProsop will also provide a platform for sports amateurs. Those who want will be able to contend in such traditional sports competitions as: fight for ram, hare and rooster, weightlifting and domino games. Entrance is free of charge.
