Festival of traditional sports “Games of Dacia” to be held in Orheiul Vechi

The first festival of traditional sports “Games of Dacia” will take place on the territory of the cultural-natural reserve “Orheiul Vechi” on May 25. The festival lasts for a day and includes a series of sports competitions for professionals and amateurs, IPN reports.

The reserve’s head Valeriu Pasa told a news conference on May 21 that the goal of the festival is to diversify the traditional sports and to build up the authentic traditions and rustic life. There will be held such sports competitions as boulder lifting, lance throwing and horsemen’s chase. The competitions will involve about 50 athletes from Moldova and Romania and are expected to be watched by about 2,000 people. The winners as well as some of the visitors will be awarded. There will be staged excursions with guides for the visitors. Those who will come with tents will be able to stay overnight in the camping area.

Ruslan Rabii, one of the organizers, said there will perform folk bands from Criuleni and Orhei and a Ukrainian music ensemble from Ivancea. There will be also mounted a craftsmen’s fair. The food will be provided by the tourist pensions of the region, which will present their offers for the vacation.

The historical reconstruction clubs of Chisinau will reconstruct military medieval clothes. There will be organized medieval arrow shooting where the visitors will be able to shoot under the guidance of professionals.

Access to the territory where the festival will take place is free of charge.
