Festival of Ethnic Communities will not take place in Chisinau this year

The Festival of Ethnic Communities that was traditionally staged in Chisinau in September will not be held this year. Though the local authorities of Chisinau proposed that this should take place on October 14, when it is celebrated the Day of Chisinau, the festival organizers decided to put it off until next spring, IPN reports.

“Regrettably, the organizers rejected our proposal to stage the festival on October 14. An exact date wasn’t set, but they suggested holding it in March, when it is warmer,” head of the Social-Humanitarian and Interethnic Relations Division Cristina Aparatu said in the October 5 ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions.

The Festival of Ethnic Communities has been mounted on the third Sunday of September starting with 2000. The 15th event of the kind was to be staged on September 20, but the managing board of the ethnic-cultural organizations of the Bureau for Interethnic Relations decided to postpone it owing to the protests staged in the central square of Chisinau. The local authorities proposed that the festival should be held in the central park of Chisinau “Stefan cel Mare” on October 14, but their proposal wasn’t accepted.
