Ferrous and Nonferrous Metals Association seeks meeting with prosecutor general

Representatives of the Moldovan Ferrous and Nonferrous Metals Recycling and Collection Association ask for a meeting with acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu.

In a news conference at IPN, the Association’s president Ion Drăniceru related that he registered a request for an audience with the acting prosecutor general in the name of the Association on November 22. Today he will ask senior prosecutor Adrian Mircos, of the Prosecutor General’s Office, to drop the case featuring members of the Association, called the Metalferos case, as the prosecutors who investigate this case committed a series of violations.

Ion Drăniceru noted that he tried for several times to obtain an audience with Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo, who is now suspended, so as to tell him about the wrongdoings committed in this case. His requests remained without an answer, but the conference given today is not aimed at dishonoring the suspended prosecutor general and is not a political act or an attack on person.

However, Drăniceru considers that Alexandr Stoianoglo asked prosecutor Vladislav Căruceru, who is dealing with this case, about the actions mentioned in his requests as he later gave a press briefing where he spoke about the accusations made against members of the Association in the Metalferos case and the figures and formulations he used coincided with those from the orders to charge persons in the Metalferos case made by Căruceru.

The Association’s members expressed their bewilderment at the position of the Prosecutor General’s Office on the situation on the ferrous and nonferrous metals market. They said that pressure is daily exerted on this segment.

In the news conference, Ion Drăniceru said the actions of the prosecutor who handles the Metalferos case are nonprofessional, are populist in character and are aimed at influencing public opinion. “This prosecutor does nothing but make unfounded accusations against persons who are evidently innocent, instead of investigating the case honestly and in good faith. He asked to stop all the abusive actions against members of the Association – persons working on the metals market of Moldova, collectors and recyclers,” he stated.
