Female MPs support gender equality by legislative proposals and initiatives

The women who sit in Moldova’s Parliament will promote zero tolerance of discrimination based on sex, race or ethnicity, religion or beliefs and faith, age or sexual orientation. The MPs will ensure an equal number of women and men in any decision-making body and will plead for the equal representation of women and men in the process of taking public decisions, shows the Resolution of the women MPs of the Parliament of the eleventh legislature that was approved today, IPN reports.

The signatories plead for the implementation and ensuring of the integration of the Istanbul Convention into the legislation and public policy framework of Moldova. “We are firmly convinced that the prejudice and discriminatory stereotypes, sexism and misogyny do not have a place in a modern, free and democratic society,” runs the Resolution.

The women MPs undertook to strengthen cooperation between society, the Government, Parliament, local public authorities, development partners and other social players. They condemn the Russian military aggression against Ukraine, the atrocities committed against hundreds of thousands of women and girls and appreciate the courage and determination of the Ukrainian people, women and men who struggle to defend their freedom, independence and democracy.

A platform of women MPs of the Parliament of the eleventh legislature was launched in Chisinau on June 17. The event involved female MPs, the President and the Prime Minister of Moldova. The platform is a new framework of cooperation and intra-institutional dialogue that will empower the Moldovan female MPs to act together to strengthen and promote the rights of women in the country.
