Female members of PDM initiate campaign to support the elderly

The Women’s Organization of the Democrat Party of Moldova (PDM) is launching a campaign to raise people’s awareness and promote the actions aimed at supporting the elderly people, Info-Prim Neo reports. The organization’s head Valentina Buliga told a news conference that Moldova is an aging country and more policies focusing on this group of people are needed. “We will put forward more initiatives so that the elderly persons feel useful in society and become involved in community life,” she stated. The project envisions opening a school for elderly persons where they will be able to develop their skills and perform different activities. “We must provide support to these people and offer them the possibility of promoting certain handicraft enterprises,” said Valentina Buliga. Valentina Stratan, who is a member of the PDM’s Women’s Organization, said that a dialogue should be established between generations. “We need understanding in promoting these nice things that will produce results in a period,” said the MP. The ageing index in Moldova is 14.4%, while the average is 12%. The north is the region with most of the elderly people. 24% of the people in Donduseni district are over 60.
