The City Hall of Chisinau specifies that the measure was taken in connection with the execution of current repair works.
On the outbound journey, the buses will travel from Muncesti Road onto Botanical Garden Street, Dacia Boulevard, and Bacioii Noi Street, after which they will return to Muncești Road and continue their established routes. On the return journey, they will travel from Muncești Road onto Bacioii Noi Street, Dacia Boulevard, and Botanical Garden Street, subsequently returning to Muncesti Road.

At the same time, during the period of September 1-11, road traffic will be partially suspended on Andrei Lupan Street, in the area of the intersection with Putnei Street. The restrictions are necessary for the execution of some repair works on the heating networks, based on the approach of Termoelectrica.

Drivers are urged to follow the directions of traffic officers, to show patience and discipline in traffic, and not to violate the provisions of the Road Traffic Regulations.

The Vice President of the former “Sor” party, Vitalie Balinschi, accused of accepting funding for the party from an organized criminal group, has been sent to trial. According to law enforcement, he allegedly accepted and directed, along with other party members, the receipt of over 10 million lei originating from the criminal activities of the fugitive Ilan Sor and other illegally obtained sources, reports IPN.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecution Office clarifies that the accused, responsible for coordinating territorial organizations, would have contributed to the use of funds for the party’s activity. The funds would have been intended for the payment of unofficial salaries, rent and maintenance of territorial headquarters, as well as remuneration of people mobilized for protests.

In the same case, an unofficial member of the formation is also targeted, accused that, during the period April-December 2022, he would have financed the party declared unconstitutional “Sor” with over 125 million lei from sources prohibited by law. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the money would have been used, among other things, for the recruitment, transportation, and remuneration of protest participants, as well as for the payment of unofficial salaries and expenses for the party’s headquarters.

Both defendants did not admit their guilt. To guarantee the payment of any potential fines and special confiscations, a seizure was applied to their assets, totaling approximately 13.7 million lei.

If found guilty, Balinschi risks a fine of up to 92,500 lei or up to seven years in prison, as well as the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or to carry out certain activities for a period of up to five years. The unofficial member of the formation risks a fine of up to 67,500 lei or up to five years in prison.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has begun Ebola vaccination, amid efforts by authorities and international organizations to control the fastest spreading epidemic ever recorded. Over 5,700 cases, of which 2,700 are fatalities, have been confirmed so far, reports IPN.

The vaccination campaign was launched in the capital of Tshopo province, one of the six regions affected in the east of the country. The Minister of Health, Roger Kamba, personally administered the first dose to a healthcare worker, emphasizing that frontline workers are the priority.

The Ervebo vaccine has proven effective in previous Ebola outbreaks, however caused by a different strain. The current outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain, for which there is not yet an approved vaccine or treatment. Ervebo is administered exceptionally, even though the product has not been approved for the new strain, because the two variants of the virus are related.

The World Health Organization has approved the dispatch of 70,000 doses to the affected areas. The outbreak, which started in May, has become the deadliest of the 17 Ebola epidemics recorded so far in the Democratic Republic of Congo. WHO warns that the situation remains extremely difficult and that the outbreak risks surpassing in scale the West Africa epidemic from 2014-2016, the worst in history, which resulted in over 11,000 deaths.

The crisis is exacerbated by the lack of security, massive population displacements, and a strike by medical staff.
Out of the 66 officially registered political parties and formations, 37 meet the conditions to participate in the elections for the Popular Assembly of Gagauzia on November 15th. The decision was approved by the Central Electoral Commission, reports IPN.

The CEC President, Angelica Caraman, stated that, according to the legislation, parties that have not presented to the Public Services Agency the numerical and nominal list of their leadership members who fall under the incidence of the legislation regarding the declaration of wealth and personal interests cannot participate in elections.

Also, parties whose activity is limited cannot participate, individually or jointly, in elections and referendums during the period of limitation. The CEC has requested updated information from the ASP regarding the status of political parties as of August 28.

According to the ASP’s response, out of the 66 registered formations, 19 parties have not complied with the obligation to present the ASP with information about the leaders who are to submit declarations of wealth and personal interests. Three other formations have limited activity, while seven are in the process of dissolution.

The elections for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia are scheduled for November 15. The electoral period has begun today. According to the calendar program approved by the Central Electoral Commission, all necessary stages of preparation and conduct of the vote will be organized during this period.

Teaching staff and researchers are giving up the protest scheduled for September 1st. The Education and Science Trade Union Federation has decided to suspend the action, in order to prioritize social dialogue and negotiations with the authorities. The unions specify that they maintain their wage claims and will monitor the compliance with the commitments made by the responsible institutions, IPN reports.

The decision was adopted at the expanded meeting of the Executive Office of FSEȘ, attended by union leaders from the territory. According to the federation, the majority of union members voted for the suspension of protest actions. The unions specify, in a press release, that the protest on August 19 sent a clear message to the authorities about the need to increase the salaries of employees in the fields of education and science.

The Federation mentions that a significant argument for suspending the protests is the commitment expressed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan regarding the increase of salaries for employees in the public sector, including education, starting from January 1, 2027.

FSES believes that social dialogue and negotiations must be leveraged to identify concrete, fair, and sustainable solutions. The negotiations will begin on September 1, within the Commission for Consultations and Collective Negotiations at the sectoral level of the Trade Union Federation of Education and Science – Ministry of Education and Research. The participation of Prime Minister Vasile Tofan is also announced at the meeting.

In the event that the commitments undertaken by the authorities are not respected or the negotiations do not lead to results commensurate with the expectations of the employees, FSEȘ announces that it reserves the right to return to stronger union actions.

On August 19, professors and other employees in the field of education and science protested in front of the Government, demanding wage increases and the respect of commitments previously assumed by the authorities. The protesters chanted messages such as “We don’t want poverty”, “We want a decent salary” and “We don’t ask for explanations, we demand increases”. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan then stated that the executive must respond to people’s expectations and identify solutions for the demands of education employees.
