Fast of Holy Apostles starts June 4

The Orthodox Christians on June 4 go on the Apostles’ Fast, also called the Fast of the Holy Apostles and the Fast of Peter and Paul. The fast begins on the second Monday after Pentecost (the day after All Saints’ Sunday) and continues until the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul on July 12, IPN reports.

Contacted by IPN, priest Eugen Onikov, of the Chisinau Church “Saint Pantelimon”, said that this fasting period is relatively easy as the faithful can eat fish, oil and drink wine on Saturdays and Sundays. On the other weekdays, one should eat fruit and vegetables. The length of the Apostles’ Fast is variable, being determined by the date of Easter. This year it lasts for five weeks.

Eugen Onicov called on the faithful not to forget about the real meaning of fasting and to fast both bodily and spiritually, be better, kinder, pray more, repent, confess one’s sins and take communion.
