Farmers to receive sowing season aid
Agricultural producers may receive aid in time for the autumn sowing season, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov told a press conference on Friday, reports Info-Prim Neo.
“We have already evaluated the damages to the agricultural sector, after the frost wave, after the hailstorms and, later, after the drought. As a result of the last drought period, we have lost much of the corn yield; the center and south of the country have, virtually, no corn. We are currently waiting for donors’ and development partners’ mission to also make an evaluation”, communicated Vasile Bumacov.
The Minister specified that they are doing their best to have distributed the aid by the beginning of the sowing season, for farmers to have money to buy quality seeds. If agricultural producers are forced to buy poorer quality seeds, we may have poor yields next year, even under good weather. “We plan on sowing around 420,000 hectares of wheat, barley and rapeseed. A lot of fuel is needed for the sowing”, the official pointed out.
Meanwhile, Vasile Bumacov thinks that the aid may be offered in two stages, one before the autumn sowing season, and the second after all cultivated areas have been evaluated.
The Minister highlighted that they are doing their best to find finances for subsidizing the purchase of seeds for autumn cultures and for the purchase of fuel, in order to stimulate agricultural works.
