The lack of concrete actions on the part of the authorities makes the farmers take to the streets. In a joint meeting of the Administration Boards of the National Farmers’ Federation and the Association “Force of Farmers”, it was decided that the first protest will be mounted on September 20 by parking agricultural machines by the roadside. The protest will be peaceful and non-politicized, IPN reports.

Representatives of a number of farmers’ associations asked for a meeting with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița by September 12. As the Premier didn’t accept the invitation of famers and their proposals for overcoming the crisis were ignored, the farmers set the first protest for September 20, starting at 10am.

“It is an economic and peaceful protest that will be mounted in a number of districts with agricultural machinery. We will definitely now allow parties or political-criminal groups to use this protest for evil political goals. The protest is depoliticized and any attempt to thwart the demonstrations will be immediately denounced and ended. Moreover, we are ready for a dialogue with the authorities and are ready to have discussions on any day with Missis Prime Minister or Missis President,” says the press release issued by the National Farmers’ Federation and the Association “Force of Farmers”.

According to the farmers, the situation in the agricultural sector is serious and the farmers are more powerfully affected than in 2020 as they simultaneously face a number of unfavorable events, such as the drought, the Russian ban, the increase in fuel prices and the low prices of agricultural products.

Among the most important demands of farmers remain: to defer their payments to creditors without calculating penalties, to provide tax concessions to them, to ask the foreign partners for financial support to pay subsidies to the farmers in a difficult situation.
