Farmers take agricultural machinery to central Chisinau in protest

The farmers who on December 6 parked their agricultural machines at entrances to the capital city are taking the machinery to the Great National Assembly Square in protest at the budgetary-fiscal policy that is detrimental to farmers and at the lack of measures of support for the drought-stricken farmers.

Contacted by IPN for details, Vasile Myrzenko, executive director of the National Farmers Federation, said the farmers will set off towards central Chisinau at 11am. They are ready to remain in the central square of the capital city until they are heard by the authorities.

The farmers demand to be compensated at least half of the costs incurred for sowing and cultivating second-group grain crops. According to Vasile Myrzenko, the authorities offer them 150 lei, but the costs per hectare are of 5,000-6,000 lei. The farmers also ask to be compensated the excise duties on diesel fuel and to keep the VAT rate on agricultural production at 8%. In the draft budgetary-fiscal policy for 2021, the rate is increased to 12%.
