Farmers put protest on hold, but leave tractors in Chisinau’s central square

The farmers decided to put their protest on hold until Monday, as their tractors will remain parked in the Great National Assembly Square. This was decided after a several-hour meeting with Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry.

The minister reiterated the proposal to create a governmental task force to address farmers’ problems, both in general and on a case-by-case basis.

The Farmers’ Force Association gave the proposal a lukewarm reception, with its president Ion Plămădeala, and its executive director, Alexandru Slusari, saying it’s hard to discuss on its merits until the farmers can see the task force in action. Meanwhile, the farmers will keep a presence in the Square, they said.

On Monday, the Association’s leadership is expected at the Ministry for a new meeting. And from Tuesday morning, farmers with debt payment problems will start submitting applications to the agricultural directorates, said Slusari.
