FAO will have representative office in Moldova

A representative office of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will be opened in Moldova, IPN reports, quoting a relevant agreement between the Government and the organization.

In the Government’s meeting, Minister of Agriculture Vasile Bumacov said the opening of the FAO office will contribute to strengthening and extending the partnership and cooperation relations with this organization.

“The representative office will facilitate the management of the FAO activities to inform, consult, promote the development and modernization of the agricultural sector and implement assistance projects,” said the minister.

Under the agreement, an area of about 60 square meters will be allocated for setting up the FAO representative office in Moldova. The institution’s head office is based at 162 Stefan cel Mare Blvd. The local personnel will be selected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, which will be responsible for salaries, social and medical insurance of employees.

Moldova joined the FAO in 2005. Founded in 1945, the FAO is a specialized UN agency that aims to combat poverty and famine all over the world by promoting agricultural development, improving nutrition and ensuring food safety.
