Family of child that died after hit by block of concrete will receive apartment

The Chisinau City Hall will provide a three-room apartment to the family of the six-year-old child that died on August 15 after hit by a block of concrete that fell from an unauthorised building located on Columna Street. At Monday’s meeting of the City Hall, Sergiu Polihovici, head of the Mayor General’s apparatus, said that the apartment will be offered through the municipal Mortgage Agency in the near future, instead of their damaged house. He said that now the family lives in an apartment rented by the City Hall. The Mayor General Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca promised earlier that the City Hall will help Turcanu family to organize the funerals and repair the house. According to officials of the City Hall, the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an investigation into this case. The persons to blame for the accident have not been identified yet. The Mayor General has recently announced he will start his own investigation to establish the persons to blame, because more than a month after the accident, no official of the City Hall admitted to having been involved in this case. Only after the accident, the local authorities ascertained that the five-storey building from which the block fell was built several years ago without construction authorisation.
