Family of assassinated businessman continues to accuse communist MP Vasili Iovv of murder

The sons of the businessman Piotr Sari, killed in July 2003 near his house in Chisinau, charge the communist MP Vasili Iovv with their father’s assassination, contesting his denial. Constantin and Evgheni Sari told Wednesday November, 22 a press conference that their father and Vasili Iovv were business partners and ran together four large enterprises, as Wine Factory in Tomai, Micauti Quarry, “Transobiect” JSC and “Ornect” JSC. Moreover, Piotr Sari supported the electoral campaign of Iovv for the position of mayor of the capital. As a proof, Sari’s sons showed the audio records performed by their father at each business meeting with Iovv. One of these records, made shortly before assassination, was presented Tuesday to investigator of the General Prosecutor’s Office. The Sari family says that a new investigation into Piotr Sari’s death was initiated at the order of President Vladimir Voronin, speaker Marian Lupu, vice-speakers Iurie Rosca and Maria Postoico, which emerged following the family’s statements regarding Vasile Iovv’s involvement in Piotr Sari’s assassination. The young men say they were afraid of becoming the victims of the same killers, and that is why these statements were spoken out three years after the murder. Constantin and Evgheni Sari claim that recently they came into possession of certain proofs that reveal doubtful affairs of their father’s partner, a business that is now amounting to about 3 mln dollars. Exactly these papers and audio tracks determined them to think that the communist MP was interested in Piotr Sari’s assassination. After his death, Iovv had registered certain enterprises on the name of his younger son, Alexandr, while the older, Dmitri, became his business partner, Sari brothers assert. Evgheni Sari stated both he and his brother, who took over their father’s business, are the target of some pressures coming from MP Iovv and his son Dmitri. At the same time, over the past years, embezzlements of equipment worth millions dollars have been recorded at the enterprises where the two Sari brothers are co-owners with Dmitri Iovv. According to them, Iovv has recently sold the equipment used for renovation of Odessa-Kiev roadway. The two brothers say there are numerous examples of dubious affairs that the General prosecutor’s office is to investigate. Vasili Iovv is the 29-th MP in the list of the Communist Party in the Moldovan Parliament.
