The man from Cahul and his two children, one of whom died, weren’t poisoned by vegetables as it was rumored. Contacted by IPN, vice director of the National Public Health Center Nicolae Furtuna said it was a case of acute poisoning by an unidentified substance. According to him, the poisonings caused by the nitrates from vegetables do not have such consequences. The police said a criminal case was started over this case.

Nicolae Furtuna said the food products consumed by the family, namely cucumbers, radish and candies, are not the cause of the poisoning. The cases of food poisoning, including those by nitrates, do not have such serious consequences. It is presumed that the family was poisoned by a very toxic substance. The samples taken from the girl who died revealed necrosis of a number of internal organs.

The man and the second child remain hospitalized. According to doctors, the 35-year-old man is in a very serious state. He was transferred from the Cahul District Hospital to the Saint Trinity Hospital in Chisinau. He is in a coma and is connected to mechanical ventilation.

The boy is now in the Intensive Care Section of the Mother and Child Institute. As a result of the poisoning, this suffered hepatitis and toxic myocarditis. His state of health is improving.

Prosecutor of Cahul district Ruslan Zamfirov has told IPN that a criminal case was started to determine all the circumstances of this case.
