Family Doctors’ Center No. 2 of the Botanica Territorial Medical Association in Chisinau procured a high-end ultrasound machine thanks to a grant provided by the Government of Japan in the framework of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects “Kusanone”, IPN reports.
The Territorial Medical Association’s director Marina Golovach said the agreement on the implementation of the project was signed a year ago. The machine cost 1.6 million lei and 1.4 million lei of this amount was provided within the project, while the rest of 200,000 lei was the medical institution’s contribution. The new equipment can be used without contraindications - for children, pregnant women, persons with diseases and with contraindications for other types of checks. The new machine will enable to increase the number of examinations from 5,000 to 8,000 lei a year.
Sonologist doctor Rodica Cheptonar said this high-performance machine enables to examine patients with the assistance of Doppler and sonoelastography techniques, etc. “These methods help to more efficiently diagnose patients. Sonoelastography, for example, helps us a lot in the diagnosing of patients, for differentiating between malignant and benign tumors. The patients already have access to such methods and are very satisfied,” stated the doctor.
“I want to thank the entire medical staff. We all owe so much to healthcare professionals for their altruist devotion to saving lives of people and to helping these recover after accidents and disease,” Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova Yamada Yoichiro stated in the ceremony to complete the project.
The diplomat noted that Japan has been Moldova’s partner in the healthcare sector for many years. Last year, they started work on a new substantial project that will increase the country’s capacities. “The Government of Japan is proud to work with you and continues to do this on your journey to accession to the European Union,” said Yamada Yoichiro.
Attending the event, deputy mayor of Chisinau Angela Kutasevich said that the support offered by the Government of Japan has been very vital, primarily during the crises of the last few years. To overcome the crises, such as the pandemic, instruments are needed to help swiftly diagnose the patients and offer the necessary assistance to save lives.
Since 2008, when the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects “Kusanone” was launched in Moldova, Japan has offered about US$7 million in grant funding for over 80 projects implemented in such sectors as education, healthcare, and public utilities.
