The allowances for families with children will be higher as of January 1, 2019. The Cabinet approved a bill to this effect on December 26, IPN reports.

The one-time childbirth allowance will be increased by 658 lei, from 5,645 lei to 6,303 lei, the monthly allowance for caring for a child for socially insured persons – by 100 lei, from 540 lei to 640 lei, while the monthly support allowance for raising twins or more children delivered at a single birth up the age of three – by 50 lei.

The goal is to improve the financial situation of families with children that benefit from childcare allowances.

The higher allowances will be paid as of January 1, 2019. The 2019 state budget law includes about 80.5 million lei for the purpose. During the last three years, the one-time childbirth allowance rose from 3,000 lei to 6,303 lei.
