The Chisinau City Hall’s Commission for management of the Reserve Fund decided to offer 300,000 lei in financial aid to the families that suffered in an explosion at an apartment block in Soroca two weeks ago. The money will be distributed in the following manner: the families that lost their homes but managed to save some of their belongings will be given 5,000 lei, those who lost both their homes and belongings will get 10,000 lei, and those who lost family members will receive 15,000 lei. Financial assistance will also be offered to the family of the firefighter that died during the rescue operation. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca requested that money be given to the family of the hospitalised rescuer as well. The blast in the residential block located on 117 Stephan the Great Street in Soroca occurred on October 27 at about 10:00 pm. Four people died and three were hospitalized with different bodily injuries. Firefighter Igor Gheletchii died during the rescue operation. The sergeant of the Civil Protection and Emergency Services Vladimir Ghinaitis was hospitalised in a serious condition.
