The General Police Inspectorate warns about the appearance of fake ads on social networking sites. The messages are published specifically on Facebook and Instagram by so-called specialists in the field of rights protection, who say that they offer services to recover the lost money, IPN reports.

“The scammers present themselves as law firms or representatives of organizations for the protection of national or international legal norms, informing about the possibility of recovering the financial means lost after placing money in fake online investment platforms. In order to be more credible, criminals use Deepfake technology with the help of which they generate video sequences in which state officials or other public figures appear,” said the General Police Inspectorate.

The police recommend the people not to access advertisements with dubious content, which contain phrases such as “Return of money”, “International refund”. The citizens are also urged to avoid registering and completing online surveys distributed through social media, which promise fabulous earnings, as well as not to enter personal data and contact details in those ads. Unknown persons must not be granted remote access to personal devices through specialized applications, for example, AnyDesk and TeamViewer, regardless of the promises received.

Likewise, bank card data, OTP security code received via SMS should not be disclosed to anyone, including bank staff. The police recommend not to transfer money to unknown persons and not to transmit money to anyone through unknown third parties in order to invest in fake investment platforms.
