Faithful people call on Metropolitan Bishop to convene General Assembly of Church

A group of Orthodox Christians asked Metropolitan Bishop Vladimir to fulfill the promise to organize the General Assembly of the Church, made this spring, and to ban giving communion to the rulers who voted the Law on Gender Equality, known as the Antidiscrimination Law. The people are ready to mount protests if the Metropolitan Bishop does not take a decision in the near future.

In a news conformance at IPN, the faithful said that in a meeting of Christians on May 19, the Metropolitan Bishop promised he will take steps to amend the Antidiscrimination Law, but nothing has changed since then.

On June 20, the Church Synod took a number of decisions, but they weren’t implemented. The actions discussed by the Synod included the prevention of the rulers who promoted the law from receiving communion, the organization of the Cross Road and of the General Assembly of the Church. Only the Cross Road has been staged so far.

The faithful said the lack of reaction and action on behalf of the Church offers the sexual minorities more freedom. If the authorities do not take into account the voice of the Christians, the Church should not bless the elections. They suggested toughening up the discipline within the Church, starting with the Metropolitan Church, so that the church officials no longer become subject for discussion in society.

The Law on Gender Equality says that the sexual minorities mustn’t be discriminated when they apply for a job.
