Failed expo
The intent of the “Pro Comunitate” Center to stage its first exhibition of photos called “Promoting culture and tolerance by photography” has failed. The Academy of Economic Studies (ASEM) has made up its mind not to host the exhibition scheduled for September 1, Info-Prim Neo reports.
An assistant of the project, Rodica Carnici, says although the leadership of the Academy initially accepted to host it, most of the photos were taken off on the eve without any explanation. The organizers try to reach an agreement with ASEM's management.
According to Rodica Carnici, the project's aim was to unite the youth from the Nistru's both banks through communication, using photography as means of communication. “We're also trying to depoliticize the Transnistrian conflict,” she specifies.
According to a representative from Soros Foundation-Moldova, Dorina Baltag, the exhibition was the first out of 11 planned by the “Pro Comunitate” Center – 5 in Moldovan universities, 5 in Transnistrian and a final exhibition in Chisinau. All the pictures were to be donated to the hosting institutions. They were taken by 20 young photographers.
The Project “Promoting culture and tolerance by photography” is financed by the Soros Foundation-Moldova as part of its program on strengthening the non-governmental sector in Moldova.
The budget amounts to $14,000.
