“The fact that the new Government didn’t today receive the vote of confidence of the Moldovan Parliament is worrisome. The Moldovan political class is obliged to take into account the freely expresses wish of the people and find wisdom for a constructive dialogue that would allow continuing the European course,” said MEP of Romania’s Social-Democratic Party Andi Cristea, who heads the Delegation to the EU – Moldova Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.
“I reassert the importance of installing a government that would continue to work to bring Moldova closer to the EU so that Moldova further benefits from EU assistance in implementing the necessary reforms for modernizing the state,” it is said in a message issued by the MEP’s office, quoted by IPN.
Last December, Andi Cristea addressed an open letter to the European Commission concerning Moldova’s future relations with the EU as a result of the November 30, 2014 parliamentary elections. The MEP sought a reaction from the EU and asked how Moldovan voters’ expectations will be reflected in its policies on Moldova, within the European Neighborhood Policy.
The answer came from the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini, who noted that the European Union is waiting with interest for the rapid formation of a more representative government, responsible towards the people, and of a constructive opposition and wants Moldova to closely cooperate with it on its road to greater transparency, towards a functional state with the rule of law and a more powerful market economy.
At the same time, the European Commission assured that it will intensify its support for swiftly implementing the Association Agreement, noting that the new government should profit from the created situation to give a powerful impetus to key reforms (in justice, the financial sector, corruption fighting and concerning investment conditions).
