The problem of mixed voting does not reside in the notion or conception, but in the implementation mechanism. At the same time, the situation as regards the multiparty system in the Republic of Moldova at present is due to the proportional representation electoral system. Statements to this effect were made in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

The leader of the National Liberal Party Vitalia Pavlichenko said the proportional representation electoral system should have been improved fundamentally. According to her, all the election runners should be represented on the electoral authority, as in other states, and this would enable the parliamentary opposition to come to power without an election threshold.

The head of the People’s Movement “Antimafie” Sergiu Mocanu said that his party does not have chances of entering Parliament with the election threshold of 6%. “With this threshold of 6%, Russian parties that are financed obscurely or in a sabotaging way from the Russian Federation or mafiotic parties can now enter Parliament, “he stated.

Chairman of the Centrist Union of Moldova Mihai Petrache said the current situation concerning the multiparty system in Moldova is due to the proportional representation electoral system that had been used during the last 24 years. “The power is now held by unsuitable persons owing to the utilization of this electoral system. If we hadn’t allowed this, we would have educated a different political class,” he stated.

Secretary of the Social Democratic Party Sergiu Coropceanu said the problem of mixed voting does not reside in the notion or conception, but in the implementation mechanism. “When the current parliamentary parties voted to introduce the mixed-member electoral system with one-round voting, they acted deceivingly, in breach of all the democratic norms,” he stated.
